New system identifies potential issues for follow-up by human technicians

Savvy Aviation has launched GADFly, an AI-powered anomaly detection tool designed to support human diagnostics of piston engine issues by analyzing flight data for unusual patterns. This allows for more proactive, data-driven maintenance and enhances safety and compliance.

With around 15,000 flights uploaded weekly, Savvy previously reviewed data only when requested by clients. GADFly now flags potential issues across all flights, allowing analysts to catch problems owners may not have noticed. CEO Mike Busch emphasizes that the AI “amplifies human expertise” without replacing it.

The Cirrus SR22 is the first aircraft supported, as that is the most common aircraft in their database. Their plan is to extend GADFly to many other makes and models for which they have sufficient training data in their database.

Director of analysis Joe Godfrey stresses that GADFly is not a “set it and forget it” tool; experienced A&Ps still interpret the data, ensuring thoughtful, expert analysis.
