Under an accelerated Surface Awareness Initiative (SAI) rollout, 55 new air traffic control towers will have uAvionix Flightline surface awareness tools installed, tested, and operational within the next 12 months.

This expansion was initiated by the FAA to reduce the number of serious close calls in U.S. airspace. The system gives air traffic controllers a better view of where all ADS-B-equipped aircraft (and other vehicles) are and the direction of any movement, even in inclement weather. The contract is a major step forward in ensuring pilot safety.

There are currently 14 FAA-towered airports using SAI systems.
