In Section 803 (Data Privacy) of Public Law 118-63, the Federal Aviation Administration has taken new measures to protect the personal information of private aircraft owners. The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 will give owners the option of withholding certain information that is currently available on the FAA websites.
Recognizing there is some degree of risk involved in giving the public full access to private aircraft owners and operators’ personal details, the FAA is now providing a way for them to limit the registration information accessible to the public. Owners and operators can submit a request, electronically, to have their names and addresses withheld.
Additionally, the FAA is considering whether to default to withholding personally identifiable information on all aircraft registry and making that information solely available through approved data downloads.
The FAA will continue to accept input on this measure since it may have an impact on others who have a stake (insurers, financiers, etc.) in the aircraft’s maintenance and regulatory compliance.
If you would like to submit a request to have your personal information withheld, you can do so at: The FAA Civil Aviation Registry Online | Federal Aviation Administration
